Emma Davies

I am a researcher and science communicator dedicated to bridging the gap between complex science and the public. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Agricultural Education and Communication at the University of Florida, I specialize in translating scientific, agricultural, environmental, and policy issues into compelling, accessible narratives. Building on my master's degree from North Carolina State University, my research examines how communication shapes public understanding of agricultural biotechnology, responsible innovation, and emerging technologies — asking who gets to participate in, shape, and benefit from scientific advancement.

My research interests grew directly out of a career spent telling these stories for the public. For more than six years, I worked as a broadcast journalist, producer, and news anchor with the Multimedia Group in Ghana, where I co-created and hosted FoodChain on JoyNews, bringing food systems reporting to a national audience. My reporting explored topics ranging from climate change and food security to agricultural innovation and rural development, with work spanning Ghana, Nigeria, Switzerland, Israel, and the United States.

Today, I continue to report alongside my academic work, contributing to CoastWatch, North Carolina Sea Grant's flagship magazine, on subjects ranging from coral reef resilience to gene editing. Whether in a newsroom, a research setting, or a community conversation, my commitment remains the same: making complex science meaningful by helping people see themselves in it. Through both scholarship and storytelling, I seek to foster more inclusive conversations about the future of food, agriculture, and technology.
